A Golden Ball is located on top of the church tower. It is based on a structure in Venice. It was put there by Sir Francis Dashwood (Chancellor of the Exchequer) who also built the nearby Temple of Music. He used the caves below as the headquarters of the the Hell Fire Club. They held card parties inside the Golden Ball which seats 8 and from where they could observe anyone approaching. There is a trapdoor in the bottom of the ball to provide access.
The Golden Ball is located on top of the tower at the Church of St. Lawrence. The church tower is sometimes open to the public. It is possible to ascend the tower, emerging through a trapdoor on to the roof. A ladder would provide access to the ball, but the public are not allowed into the ball.
