EYAM (Derbyshire) - Well used for Food Exchange

Information

A Well outside of the village was used to exchange food during the plague of 1665. The villagers would leave payment at the well for food needed in the village. People from outside the village would leave the food at the well for collection by the villagers. This avoided the outsiders coming into contact with possibly infected people from the village.
