A four room castle built in a day as the result of wager between Sir Francis Deleval
and the actor Samuel Forte. The wager was that Sir Francis could not build a home
for his lady friend in the space of one day. It was built in 1750. There are two
conflicting stories about it’s construction. One that it was started under the light
of the stars and finished in daylight, the other that it was completed working by
starlight. It survived relatively intact until it was partly demolished in the 1900s
to avoid having to pay tax on it.
On a bank at the side of the river west of Seaton Sluice.
