WARDEN (Northumberland) - Toll House

Information

The private house at the end of the bridge was formerly the Toll House for the Bridge. However it was not for the bridge which stands there now. It was an earlier chain link suspension bridge shown in the photo from an old newspaper.  The building at the north end of the bridge is the Boatside Inn. It gets it’s name from an even earlier time before there was a bridge. At that time there was a ferry boat which was kept at that side of the river, hence it was the boatside.
