ALNWICK (Northumberland) - Dirty Bottles Window

According to local folklore, an old owner of the building tried to move the bottles from the window nearly two centuries ago and dropped down dead. There is supposed to be curse on anyone who tries to clean them. Allegedly no one has tried to touch them since. Quite a few years ago a student broke in and tried to clean them and as far as is know he is still alive, but the curse did strike in watered down form as he did see the inside of Durham Jail as a result. In actual fact there is someone whose job is to regularly remove some of the dirt so that the bottles do not become obscured and he appears to be surviving ok.
